Both signed "O.G." - Who The Hell Is He?!

So, it's kind of chaotic for me again. I'm reporting in from the lovely isle of Taua'i (Kaua'i), in the ever-gorgeous Island State of Hawai'i, out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean... six hours away from the mainland...

Anyways, I've placed an order to Rose Melody through Qutieland to get their Rose Crucifix JSK - I'll let you know how that goes in a couple of months!

ANYWHO... on to today's post!

My brother has recently discovered the magic that is the musical "The Phantom of the Opera". So we have rewatched the 25th Anniversary show something like twelve times. That got me thinking of different lolita coords that would compliment some of the more prominent characters. The ones on today's focus: Christine Daae, Carlotta Giudicelli, and Erik (The Phantom).

Lolita Coord Inspiration - CHRISTINE

A simple coord inspired by Christine Daae. Many people, I think, would put her in white. But I think that is an overglorification of her "pure"-type character. This coord draws mostly from her "Notes/Twisted Every Way" costume, where I think we see Christine's mentally-weaker side, where she completely loses it, just before she goes into "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again". I didn't giver her any real jewelry because she is, in all honesty, a simple girl, who doesn't need to be showered in luxury.

Lolita Coord - CARLOTTA

Carlotta Giudicelli - Christine's loud-mouthed, sassy, Prima-Donna rival as leading soprano at the Opera Populaire - and for whatever reason, she is one of my favorite characters. Possibly because she is everything I'm not: spoiled, gaudy, attention-seeking, elaborate. Choosing AatP's Masquerade Theater print for this is a no-brainer - it is a busy print inspired by The Phantom of the Opera!

Aristocrat Coord - PHANTOM

And finally, we come to Erik - the Phantom of the Opera. Darn, I forgot to include a mask with this. Bust is it necessary? Not really. A unisex Gothic Aristocrat look, accented with the classical rose motif that he loves. And what is a Phantom without his cape? The frilled blouse with removable neck ties is a great piece of detail.

So, what should I do up next? How about... Madame Giry, Meg Giry, and the Music Box?

Replicas: No Longer an EGL Debate?

So, I've been terrible and have stayed off of the EGL LiveJournal page for a bit (Actually, I have been offline quite a bit, sorry lovelies), and I was surprised to see this giant banner when I got back:

ANNOUNCING THE BAN OF ILLEGAL COUNTERFEIT ITEMS ON EGL

In Layman's terms: The ban of all Print Replica Discussion on the EGL LiveJournal

The full announcement can be found here.

So, what does all this mean?

1) EGL admins had been contacted by an undisclosed brand 's representative. The brand asked that all discussion and sales of replica items be banned on the EGL LiveJournal. This is happening.

2) All print replicas are banned from both sales and discussion. No Silent Moon, no Masquerade Theater, No Pastel A La Mode, no Sugary Carnival, no original print replicas. No selling and no buying replicas over the EGL sales comm.

3) Want to have a photoshoot with a replica? That's okay, just don't bring it up.

4) This ban does NOT include any non-or-generic-prints, shoes, bags, etc, that do not have a brand's logo on them. Just because a floral-print a-line dress was released by JetJ does not mean you cannot sell a floral print a-line on EGL sales.
  • The point about easily-identifiable shoes and bags has been brought up, like the common knockoff of Angelic Pretty tea party shoes. The admins have clarified that as long as it doesn't have a faux-Brand logo, and it has no characters of the brands, it is okay. MEANING: no AP Pony, no Usakumya, etc.
My Take On It:

This is the sort of thing I have mixed feelings about. I am a "larger" girl - marginally - so certain brands are hard for me to fit in. For example, MmM is completely out of the equation for me, as are JetJ and AATP is hit-or-miss (thank you, bust). The perk of replicas is that, though I do respect the artists, I can fit in a replica and at least feel as though I am owning a dream print.

But I also stand strongly for the artists and brands that put so much into their prints. I don't know - I don't buy prints often enough, nor do I particularly care. But I've toyed with the idea of buying replica.

What are your thoughts, my lovelies?

Over-neglected and DAY 5!

I'm sorry about my hiatus once again. This past month has been a living hell for me (between projects, planning for Fanime, midterms, and the like) and this blog is much lower on my priority list than before. BUT TODAY, I FIX THAT.

DAY 5, LOLITA MEME:

Day 5 –  items from your wishlist.

Okay, this will be a hard one for me,I chopped it down from 10 to 5 items, because I don't have specific items I want. Maybe a couple, but these are going to be generic.

1) Atelier Pierrot Corset Dress - Alright, although I will never fit in one of these unless I get a breast reduction, I love their corset dresses. As long as it is in a bold, dark colour, I will love it. With a black blouse under it, I would feel absolutely sublime. Without a doubt, my dream style.

2) A Black Bonnet - Bonnets are another pleasure of mine. I have one AaTP one in Navy, which is absolutely beautiful, but I have great difficulty getting my hands on a black one (locally - I actually can't buy things online). I really really want one... Whah!

3) A Decent Black Blouse - Alright, I'm going to take the laughs. Yes, this is a Lolita staple. Yes, I don't have one. It is impossible to get a brand blouse in my size (105 cm バスト, anyone?) and buying online is unavailable to me at the moment.

4) A simple MmM OP or JSK - once again, never going to fit due to sizing, but I love MmM's older designs (the new prints spin me into "WTH?!" mode) and I would love one of the simple, lovely dresses.

5) MmM cross jewelry - Yeah, their cross jewelry pieces are amazing. Not a fan of their coloured cross pendants, but the black/metal/small pieces are beautiful, in design and execution. I really enjoy the Swarovski crystal choker.

Day 4 - My Personal Menu of Amazingness

Sorry, only one entry today. I've been very very busy. So, here's today's post. Not sure how Lolita-like it is, but eh. It's part of the meme:

Day 4 – 10 different kinds of food you like.

1) Red Velvet Anything - cakes, cupcakes, cheesecake... I love it all!

2) Raspberries... kind of going back to #1...

3) Cucumbers. They are so light and refreshing!

4) Fruit tarts - particularly the little ones that they well at The Farm in Soquel. So delicious!

5) Dark Chocolate ~ <3

6) Soba - I don't know what I like about it. But I do.

7) New England Clam Chowder - GIFT FROM THE GODS

8) French Onion Soup - with Gruyère cheese is the best. That's what my mother, father, and I have agreed upon. We usually do half-Gruyère, half Swiss.

9) Salmon. An amazing fish. I typically get smoked salmon nigiri at my local sushi place.

10) Roy's Chocolate Souffle - the Chocolate souffle at Roy's Hawai'ian Fusion restaurants are AMAZING. You seriously can only have one every FIVE YEARS with house delectibly rich they are!

What about you? What are some of your most delicious delights?

Lolita Meme Days 2 and 3 - What I Love and Hate

It's Monday - another double-whammy, let's-knock-out-two-days-worth-of-meme-posting day.

Day 2 is "10 Things I Love In Lolita", so here is my list -

1) Petticoats (at least the one I have) are so very comfortable! I can make myself a next and be very very comfortable. Hence why I tend to play videogames while wearing it XD

2) While it has set guidelines, it is incredibly versatile, with a lot of room for creativity.

3) It is teaching me how to sew.

4) I feel absolutely beautiful in it.

5) The attention to detail is impeccable.

6) LACE! I love lace. So delicate and elegant... <3

7) It's not costume-y (at least my style isn't) so i can wear it to virtually any kind of event - one of my favorites being the San Francisco Symphony!

8) It's conservative. I really enjoy this, as I am self-conscious of my 95-70-100 figure. Curvy isn't all it's cracked up to be. My busty-ness tends to be a problem though.

9) It really does bring up a lot of compliments. As people comment, I genuinely like the fact that people aren't afraid to comment on what I am wearing.

10) It can flatter all body shapes and types, unlike most mainstream fashions.

Day 3 is "10 Things I Hate In Lolita"

1) Vladimir Nabokov. Brilliant writer, but we're trying to hard to separate Lolita from Lolita.

2) The target consumer audience for most brands are young Japanese women. The rest of the world is kind of screwed, because this audience has a very particular body type.

3) It's expensive. The detail and high quality really rack up the price tag.

4) I cannot walk through tiny aisles in Chinatown gift shops while wearing lolita. Too many breakable objects, and I take up too much room.

5) Online drama.

6) Kind of going with #5, I don't like how judgemental Lolitas can be. It makes me want to avoid my community, especially since it is saturated in brand and Sweet (and I am the opposite.)

7) I can't play with my puppy when I am home and wearing Lolita. His muddy paws get on EVERYTHING :(

8) Prints are a pain in the bustle to clean. And expensive.

9) It seems like experimentation is less-okay in the USA, since the forefront of the fashion is across the globe. It's kind of like a "we'll take it if Japan approves" kind of mentality, like requesting permission from a parent to do something.

10) This is more a bother to my tastes... but PRINTS! EVERYWHERE! It seems like designs are on the decline, but as long as it has a nice print, it's going to be popular. I can't seem to get a nice solid-colour dress  anymore :(

What about you? What are your loves/hates about Lolita?

Day One - 10 Things About Your Lolita Bubble

Two updates in one day... WHAAAAA?!?! Yeah, to make up for my lack of attention on this blog, here is the FIRST INSTALLMENT of the 30-Day Lolita Meme.

1)  I dress for myself and only myself. If someone is nitpicky about it, I will take their criticism into consideration, but I may or may not do anything about it.

2) Despite living in what may be the Lolita Mecca of the USA, I am rather a loner. I don't like going out to make friends - I feel like I'm being judged constantly by other lolitas. Which is why almost NONE of the friends I do have are lolitas XD

3) I discovered exactly how much extra room I take up when wearing a petticoat. It gets to the point where I have to readjust my mirrors in the car when I drive because I sit so much higher!

4) I kick a lot more butt when I'm playing video games while wearing lolita, for whatever reason.

5) I learned about Lolita through researching characters for my creative writing. Go figure.

6) I wore Lolita quite a bit during high school. No one really judged me, though, since I was a theatre kid. It was more or less, "Ah, there's Lunette... being WEIRD again."

7) It pains me that I don't fit into the styles I like. I don't like having to compromise on that.

8) I don't like prints. I find them to be a hassle, and to look somewhat tacky. But then again, I've never liked prints. IN ANY style, not just Lolita.

9) I consider myself a lifestyle lolita at heart, but there are certain times where other things must take priority, where the "lolita way" isn't the best way to go about doing things.

10) I hate it when people spend a lot of money on me. Particularly when it comes to recieving Lolita things as gifts.

An Apology an Update - and the 30-Day Lolita Meme

Alright, I said this blog was going to be updated weekly, on Fridays... I understand that I have missed two weeks and I am now posting on a Sunday. My life has been rather hectic as of late, and I'm sorry for the unannounced hiatus. But, I AM BACK and READY FOR ACTION!

Two Fridays ago (the reason I didn't update my blog...) I was competing in a school-wide talent competition. The winner got 400USD, which got me drooling over all the clothes I could buy. But because I was the only act that didn't sing gospel/lounge music/Adele (rather, I sang a rock number ^.^;) I didn't place at all. But oh well, I had so much fun anyways! I got all loli-ed up for it, and the crowd moved with so much flaming energy that even the judges gave me a standing ovation. It was fantastic - the pest performance of my life thus far!

Yesterday (Saturday) was a photoshoot at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, with an accompanying interview for the school magazine about the Lolitas of San Francisco. There were only four people total who posed in the shoot, and I got a lot (I mean, A LOT) of camera time. Which was actually really nice, because I've never really been in a photoshoot before. I'll be sure to post pictures and update you when the article comes out - I'm not supposed to really give anything away until it is published.

I know it's really freaking late, but I've decided to go with the "30-Day-Lolita-Meme", which I will post almost daily, if not more than one a day, since it is 30 days of lolita drabbling and I'm sure I'll want to talk about other things over the course of the next month.
